The CNBS hosted the FinEquityLAC 2025 Annual Meeting
19 de June de 2025On Thursday, June 5, 2025, the National Commission of Banks and Insurance (CNBS), with the support of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), carried out the launch of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) Honduras 2025-2030. The event was attended by representatives from public institutions, private organizations, and international cooperation agencies, whose participation is key to consolidating a strategy aimed at generating sustainable and systemic transformations in the financial inclusion of the country.

As part of the commitment made in the Maya Declaration, the NFIS aims to coordinate and align decisions and actions to eliminate barriers that limit access to and use of formal financial products and services, promoting the economic well-being of all sectors, prioritizing attention to women, youth, rural and agricultural populations, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and cross-cutting subsegments such as older adults, indigenous peoples, and Afro-descendants, as well as people with disabilities. This effort is articulated around six strategic pillars focused on strengthening the regulatory framework, promoting transformation through digitalization and new technologies, boosting green and sustainable finance, fostering financial education in underserved sectors, promoting gender equity in the financial system, and improving consumer protection mechanisms for financial users.

During the event, the President Commissioner of the CNBS, Engineer Marcio Sierra, addressed those present, highlighting that this initiative reflects the country’s responsibility to move towards a more accessible, fair, and inclusive financial system. For his part, the Executive Director of AFI, Alfred Hannig, emphasized the importance of promoting financial inclusion. He pointed out that, in addition to political will, this requires a strategic vision, inter-institutional coordination, a solid database, and implementation that includes monitoring outcomes. These aspects are considered by the NFIS, which is presented as a valuable guide that should be materialized in concrete actions to improve the quality of life for Hondurans.

The NFIS is part of the actions that the Government of President Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, through the CNBS, is taking to promote financial inclusion, seeking to comprehensively address existing gaps, encourage equitable and sustainable access to financial products and services, and move towards a more inclusive, sustainable, and innovative financial system for the entire Honduran population.
