The CNBS launched the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) Honduras 2025-2030

In the context of a bilateral meeting held on June 4, 2025, the National Commission of Banks and Insurance (CNBS) presented to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) the main achievements made in financial inclusion in recent years, reaffirming its commitment to the economic and social development of the country through greater financial inclusion of the Honduran population.
Since its incorporation as an associate member of AFI in 2013, the CNBS has played an active role in promoting policies and actions aimed at facilitating access to formal financial services. In 2022, under the leadership of the Board of Commissioners chaired by Engineer Marcio Sierra, the CNBS was recognized as an Ambassador Institution for Gender Inclusive Finance, in recognition of its efforts to promote financial inclusion for Honduran women. Subsequently, in 2023, the CNBS became a core member of AFI, which has strengthened its capacity to share experiences and best practices at the international level.

Among the main achievements of the CNBS in this area, the following stand out:
- Creation of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy
- Approval of the standard definition of ‘Women MIPYME Business
- Creation of the Financial Inclusion Capture Tool
- Creation of Web Portals for Financial Education and Inclusion
- Preparation of 11 Financial Inclusion Reports
- Creation of the Financial Innovation Hub
- Creation of the Financial Inclusion Dashboard with sex-disaggregated data
- Updating of the Regulatory Framework on Transparency and Financial Education
- Preparation of 6 Gender Gap Reports
- Creation of the Management of Financial Education and Inclusion and Gender
The active participation of the CNBS in the AFI has allowed it to integrate into various specialized working groups, among them:
- Consumer Empowerment and Market Conduct Working Group (CEMCWG)
- Digital Financial Services Working Group (DFSWG)
- Data and Impact of Financial Inclusion Working Group (FIDIWG)
- Financial Inclusion Strategies Working Group (FISPLG)
- Proportionality of Global Standards Working Group (GSPWG)
- Inclusive Green Finance Working Group (IGFWG)
- Finance for SMEs Working Group (SMEFWG)
It is worth noting that the technical staff of the CNBS participating in these groups has been nominated for various international awards, in recognition of their outstanding work and contribution to strengthening financial inclusion in Honduras.
