19 de August de 2025
On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the National Commission of Banks and Insurance (CNBS) and the National Institute of Statistics (INE), with financial and technical support from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), carried out the launch of the results of the Financial Inclusion Module, developed from the data collected in the Permanent Survey of Multiple Purposes (EPHPM), conducted in November 2024.

This module was designed to measure the level of financial inclusion, financial literacy, and personal financial management among the Honduran population. It represents the first coordinated effort to generate official statistics that allow for the analysis of financial inclusion from a demand-side perspective.
The event featured the participation of distinguished representatives from international organizations, supervised institutions, state secretaries, academia, and key institutions of the financial ecosystem, and was led by Mr. Wilmer Banegas, Deputy Manager of Demographic and Social Statistics of the INE, who provided a summary of the methodological aspects supporting this work, and Dr. Sebastián Auguste, consultant of the IDB, responsible for presenting the main findings derived from the data analysis.

Furthermore, the President Commissioner of the CNBS, Engineer Marcio Sierra, addressed those present, highlighting that this action represents a decisive step in the formulation of evidence-based policies. He also pointed out that it aims to serve as a roadmap to guide decision-making, identify gaps and opportunities, and promote concrete actions that ensure equitable access to financial products and services for all sectors of the population, especially those historically excluded.

For his part, the Executive Director of the INE, Sociologist Eugenio Sosa, and the Representative of UN Women in Honduras, Mrs. Miriam Bandes, pointed out in their remarks the importance of financial inclusion as an essential pillar for the economic development of our country. Additionally, they highlighted the key role that data plays in the effective implementation of strategies aimed at ensuring this objective.
This initiative, framed within the National Financial Inclusion Strategy of Honduras for the period 2025–2030, is integrated into the institutional agenda of the CNBS as part of the commitment to promote a fair and accessible financial system.
